Snippet Sunday: Day of the Dead ~ Dia de los Muertos #snippetsunday #SPeekSunday

Welcome to Snippet Sunday

Today I will share a snippet from my newly published story Day of the Dead ~ Dia de los Muertos.

***Note: The snippet has been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit.***

*******************************************************
October was Valentina Bellmonte's favorite month out of the year with its beautiful weather, but she especially loved Halloween. Halloween had always been a big deal at her house growing up.

They would decorate the house with pumpkins and scarier items like ghosts, witches and vampires.

Her mother would throw a big party where everyone was required to wear a costume, the scarier the
better.
She hoped, this year, she'd remain healthy enough so she could actually enjoy the festivities this little town of Hope had to offer. She moved here by chance a year ago.

She'd closed her practice of four years, sold her condo and took off in her car, planning to see as much as she could of the states before she couldn't.

She'd been diagnosed with cancer, stage four and with no hope.
*******************************************************

Where will Valentina travel too? And what mysteries await her?

Find out next week on Sunday the 21st for snippet #2 of my paranormal romance Day of the Dead ~ Dia de los Muertos.

Thank you so much for stopping by.

If you're interested in more about Day of the Dead ~ Dia de los Muertos here's a blurb:

Word Count: 84,280

The Day of the Dead takes on a new meaning, when the dead don't stay dead. Dr. Valentina Bellmonte, a cancer survivor, is the new coroner at Hope Memorial. Her faith is put to the test when a body arrives at the morgue drained of blood and the man responsible for the crime is sporting fangs. Could vampires be real?
Her good friend, Dr. Xander Carlisle seems to know the truth, but he's unwilling to confide in her. He has a secret of his own and it's not just how he feels about her, but something else entirely, something he's forbidden to reveal.

  2. Opening with a dying protagonist thinking about Halloween is a nice hook, Cecilia! :)

  3. Nice intro.
    Watch the timeline, though.
Most patients I've seen over the years (I'm a pharmacist) who were stage 4 lived less than six months and had limited mobility. Still, like Sarah above, I like the premise of opening with a dying main character.

  12. I like how you close the paragraph with "no hope" when the town's name is Hope. I guess that's where the story comes from. Good one!
