Snippet Sunday: Day of the Dead ~ Dia de los Muertos #snippetsunday #SPeekSunday #8Sunday

Welcome Back Everyone!

Today is Snippet #5! I'm so excited to have you read it!

Today I'll be sharing a continued snippet from my newly published story Day of the Dead ~ Dia de los Muertos.

Last time we left off with Valentina making a new friend in Xander and made a new life in the little town of Hope. She found a sense of piece working in the morgue. Lets find out why.
***Note: The snippet has been modified to fit the 8 sentence limit.***

In there she had a handle on things. She knew what she was doing.
She controlled the outcome of what happened and it felt so good to have a purpose. The morgue was separated into sections.
An area designated for the autopsy and storage units.
The other half had two desks that she shared with the full time coroner, a couch for lounging or sleeping if the nights became too long, and a coffee machine in the corner.
"Hi gorgeous," Xander said as he strolled in through the morgue's swinging doors.
He shot her the sweetest smile. Xander was tall, dark and handsome.
*******************************************************************************************************
Did Xander just call her gorgeous? I think maybe Xander has a crush on Valentina.
Find out next week on Sunday October 18th for snippet #6 of my paranormal romance Day of the Dead ~ Dia de los Muertos.
Thank you so much for stopping by.

The Day of the Dead takes on a new meaning, when the dead don't stay dead. Dr. Valentina Bellmonte, a cancer survivor, is the new coroner at Hope Memorial. Her faith is put to the test when a body arrives at the morgue drained of blood and the man responsible for the crime is sporting fangs. Could vampires be real?

Her good friend, Dr. Xander Carlisle seems to know the truth, but he's unwilling to confide in her. He has a secret of his own and it's not just how he feels about her, but something else entirely, something he's forbidden to reveal.

  1. We get to meet the good Doctor! :)

    I like him already (should I? Is this a trick? :) )

  2. He called her gorgeous, but she notes he is tall dark and handsome : ). Workplace romance?

  3. Now I see why she loves working at the morgue (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). Intriguing snippet!

  4. Tall, dark and handsome...and he called her gorgeous. I'm intrigued.

  5. I don't think I could sleep in a morgue. Unless tall dark and handsome joined me, of course! ;-)

  6. This really goes to show you that you can find love when your least expecting it. I'm kind of intrigued based on the name of this book, is the tall dark handsome man, Xander really dead? Yikes! That would be something. Can't wait till next week.

  7. Definitely helps to have the insights as to why she likes working there so much. I'm guessing Xander is part of the appeal of the place LOL. Excellent excerpt!

  8. This post calls to me for many (non-authorial) reasons. 1) I used to live in a town called Hope, in British Columbia. 2) I now live in Tucson, which has unofficially adopted Dia de los muertos as it's tourist theme. Weird theme, eh? 3) I live on Cecilia street.
On the other hand, I've never been either a coroner or, I'm happy to report, a coroner's client. :-)

  12. I really like how the last two lines breathe so much life into the scene-- after you took pains to create the proper atmosphere for a morgue. Nicely done.

  13. It's still creepy, thinking that she sleeps with the dead if the night is too long. Interesting story.

  14. I totally get why she like the morgue. I think he always thought she was gorgeous even when she was at her sickest, love him already.

  17. I'm looking forward to finding out if he is serious about "gorgeous" or if it's just an expression.

  18. Nice snippet ... liked the description of the morgue followed up the small dialogue to round the scene.
